National plastic pollution efforts continue

Good things happen when experts from different sectors work together.

Dr Peter Ross, Senior Scientist at Raincoast, together with Dr Anna Posacka at Ocean Positive Solutions, are helping to lead advisory efforts to support the Government of Canada’s plastic science agenda through a national symposium this week.

2026 Virtual Canadian Science Symposium on Plastics.

Over 130 researchers and policymakers from government, academia, industry, and the non profit sector contributed to a national roadmap at this meeting that encourages innovation in science, policy, and practice to reduce plastic pollution that threatens Canadians and their environment.

Dr. Ross leads Raincoast’s Healthy Waters program, creating a new approach to monitoring water pollution by working with Indigenous Nations, communities, and governments in watersheds through British Columbia. This solution-oriented initiative helps to identify problem pollutants, how they threaten fish habitat, and what steps might be available to restore and protect waterways from unwanted contamination.
