Listen to Lance Barrett-Lennard explain the importance of proper policy recommendations for Southern Resident killer whale recovery

Media roundup of recent coverage of the Independent Science Panel on SRKW Recovery.

A new report by an independent science panel calls for action to aid in the recovery of endangered Southern Resident killer whales (SRKWs). Despite two decades of endangered species protection under both Canadian and U.S. legislation, this unique population has declined to 73 individuals, with no sign of recovery.

For the first time, scientists have proposed a comprehensive set of recommendations for Southern Resident recovery on both sides of the Canada – U.S. border. The recommendations flow from more than three decades of scientific research on the population, its health, and the factors preventing recovery.

When the report was published we had extensive news coverage. Listen to Raincoast’s Dr. Lance Barrett-Lennard explain the importance of this new report.
