Postdoctoral fellow Dr. Erin Wall is in Perth, Australia, presenting her research on the development of humpback whale song at the 25th conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals.
Humpback whales learn complex songs, often heard on their breeding grounds, yet we know little about their song development or how cultural transmission on the feeding grounds shapes song.
Using two years of recordings from hydrophones along the British Columbia coast, Erin has analyzed seasonal and diel patterns of humpback whale vocal behavior on North Pacific feeding grounds. We hope many of you were able to see and learn from Erin’s presentation!
