Big tree measuring blitz
August 16 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Celebrate old-growth forest protection and learn how to measure big trees from senior experts by joining us and the Pender Islands Conservancy for a big tree measuring blitz! During this blitz, you will work together to measure tree diameter, height, and crown spread. Through learning these skills, you will be able to contribute to growing big tree registries locally in the Salish Sea and across the province while also becoming a champion of old-growth forest protection in your community.
Meeting location: Magic Lake swimming hole parking lot (map). Please aim to arrive by approximately 9:45 AM so we can organize carpools to the nature reserve where measuring will take place.
What to wear
Dress appropriately for the weather; warmer temperatures are expected, so be prepared by wearing adequate sun protection and bringing water. As we will be in a forest, long pants, tall socks, and closed-toed shoes are strongly recommended.
What to bring
All supplies will be provided, as well as snacks and drinks.
Pride
Optional: As Pender Pride celebrations will be taking place over the weekend, we would love to see folks dress up in their best nature-themed and colourful attire, or anything pride-inspired!
