Underwater Noise Workshop 1
February 29 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Greetings Sunshine Coast community! We are excited to invite you to the Sunshine Coast: Quiet Vessel Initiative Learning Session.
The full day, hands-on workshop is dedicated to fostering knowledge and dialogue around the important issue of underwater noise, its impacts to marine species and mitigation measures. The learning opportunity is supported through Transport Canada’s Quiet Vessel Initiative and presented in co-operation with the Loon Foundation and the Raincoast Conservation Foundation.
The Raincoast Conservation Foundation and the Loon Foundation are hosting the event and covering the costs for participants to attend a full day workshop (2 date options). The day includes refreshments, breakfast, and a light lunch.
We are working with Jonathan and his team at SLR Consulting who have combined over 30 years of experience working in underwater acoustics. During this learning session, you will have the opportunity to:
- Understand underwater radiated noise
- Interpret metrics used in the measurement of underwater noise
- Understand the impact of underwater noise to marine species
- Identify technology and methods for mitigation of underwater noise
- Gain hands on experience deploying and using a hydrophone
We have 20 spaces available for each date option to join in person. Hands-on hydrophone testing will take place at one of the local marinas. We encourage you to register soon, as in person spaces are limited. To register, email: maureen [at] raincoast [dot] org
