Double your donation through corporate philanthropy
Find out if your employer participates in gift matching using this feature.
Many of our community partners have workplace giving campaigns and connect us with their employees to tackle conservation issues through office fundraisers and activities.
It’s not uncommon for businesses to have their own in-house giving programs, sometimes with dedicated officers to oversee their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Household names include Apple, Home Depot, Google, Chipotle, and Telus – small businesses regularly give back to local nonprofits as well!
Did you know that individual donors like yourselves can participate in your employer’s charitable giving programs through:
- Employee volunteering, where employers offer cash donations or paid time-off for employees to volunteer at a fundraising event or other charitable activity. (Patagonia does this!)
- Gift matching, allowing donors to double (or potentially even triple!) their impact. Gifts may be made once or on a recurring basis, often with limits as to how much the company will donate annually.
- Grants, allowing nonprofits to apply directly to corporate foundations under a specific initiative or program. Employee referrals can help charities be noticed by the right people in charge of distributing these funds.
Depending on a business’ location, services, or products, they may favour certain geographic areas or causes. For example, environmental stewardship, sustainability, and education are commonly cited focus areas.
So, how does it actually work?
Each company has their own process to approve employee donations and contacting the organization’s HR department is the best place to start.
We also have a feature on our donation form to support this process; simply enter the name of an employer and we’ll reach out!
We’re happy to chat! If you’d like to further discuss or directly put us in touch with your Community Giving colleagues, please reach out to Raincoast’s Development Director, Lauren Duboisset-Broust at lauren [at] raincoast [dot] org.
You can help us do our conservation science work.
You can help
Raincoast’s in-house scientists, collaborating graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and professors make us unique among conservation groups. We work with First Nations, academic institutions, government, and other NGOs to build support and inform decisions that protect aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, and the wildlife that depend on them. We conduct ethically applied, process-oriented, and hypothesis-driven research that has immediate and relevant utility for conservation deliberations and the collective body of scientific knowledge.
We investigate to understand coastal species and processes. We inform by bringing science to decision-makers and communities. We inspire action to protect wildlife and wildlife habitats.
