A killer whale calf surfaces with a group of whales.

A new calf in K pod! Named K41 MANDATORY PHOTO CREDIT: Kelley Balcomb-Bartok, Centre for Whale Research On Sunday, 13 August 2006, a nineteen year old female southern resident killer whale designated K22 was seen in Haro Strait, Washington State with a very newborn killer whale baby. Biologists/photographers at the Center for Whale Research on San Juan Island first observed the mother and baby and its older brother from shore around 10 a.m., and responded in a small research boat to confirm the mother’s identification and photo-document the appearance of the new calf.
