Pender Island Big Tree Blitz

Join Raincoast and the Pender Islands Conservancy for a morning of big tree hunting on Pender Islands.

The Pender Islands Big Tree Registry records any big or special tree on Pender Islands to document local biodiversity and promote conservation of high priority areas. It relies on nominations of big trees by community members. Help us add to the registry by joining us for the Big Tree Blitz!

Event details

August 13, 2023 from 10:30-2:00. Gather at the Pender Islands Community Hall (4418 Bedwell Harbour Road) parking lot at 10:30AM. Come prepared in good walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing.  Attendees will be separated into three teams before heading off to different sites (we encourage carpooling!). Each team will identify and measure as many trees as possible at their site before reconvening at Hope Bay to debrief, share snacks, and win prizes. Teams will be guided by knowledgeable volunteers and/or Raincoast staff and tools will be provided.

We encourage people to register in advance but drop-ins are also welcome.

Please reach out to Aria (bigtree [at] raincoast [dot] org) with any questions about the registry, to nominate a new tree, or to learn about other upcoming events.

Support our mobile lab, Tracker!

Our new mobile lab will enable the Healthy Waters Program to deliver capacity, learning, and training to watershed-based communities. We need your support to convert the vehicle and equip it with lab instrumentation. This will allow us to deliver insight into pollutants of concern in local watersheds, and contribute to solution-oriented practices that protect and restore fish habitat.
